A Fatal Night

On January 21, 2021, police responded to a call in Panthersville, Georgia, where they found Frederick Rooks, 34, lying on the road, fatally wounded by multiple gunshots. Surveillance footage later revealed Ricky Hawk, Silento’s real name, fleeing the scene in a white BMW. This evidence led to his arrest and eventual conviction.

A History of Trouble

Sadly, this wasn’t Silento’s first brush with the law. In the years leading up to the murder, the rapper had been arrested multiple times on various charges, including domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon. His erratic behavior and mental health struggles were well-documented, with his reps even admitting to TMZ that he had been battling a “series of mental health illnesses.”

The Aftermath

Following his arrest for murder, Silento was denied parole and eventually pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm. His sentence, handed down by a Georgia judge, ensures that the 25-year-old will spend the next three decades behind bars.

The news has sparked a mix of reactions from fans, ranging from disbelief to sympathy for his mental health struggles. Many have expressed hope that he will receive the help he needs while incarcerated.

From Stardom to Tragedy

Silento’s rise to fame was meteoric. His debut single, “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” became a global phenomenon, racking up nearly 2 billion views on YouTube and turning the then-17-year-old into a household name. Tragically, his inability to replicate that success, coupled with his mental health issues, led him down a dark path.
