Melinda Gates’ new memoir, The Next Day, is making waves as she candidly discusses her divorce from billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates. While the split has been largely amicable, Melinda’s revealing account of their marital struggles and Bill’s controversial associations is causing quite a stir.

The Beginning of the End

In her memoir, Melinda pinpoints 2019 as the year their marriage began to unravel. She recalls the intense media scrutiny following The New York Times article that exposed Bill’s questionable conduct, including alleged affairs and meetings with the infamous sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Melinda expresses her disapproval of Bill’s meetings with Epstein, stating in a 2022 interview, “I made it clear to him that I did not like him meeting with Jeffrey Epstein.” She even admits to meeting Epstein once out of curiosity but instantly regretted it, describing him as “abhorrent” and “evil personified.”

Bill eventually shared Melinda’s sentiments about Epstein, telling the Wall Street Journal, “In retrospect, I was foolish to spend any time with him.” He acknowledged that associating with Epstein was a grave mistake, initially thinking it would benefit his global health philanthropy efforts.

According to reports, Epstein threatened to expose Bill’s alleged affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova after Bill declined to participate in Epstein’s charitable fund with JPMorgan Chase.

A New Chapter

Melinda describes her decision to leave the marriage as one of the most challenging yet empowering choices she’s ever made. Today, both Bill and Melinda have moved on, with Melinda finding love again with entrepreneur Philip Vaughn, and Bill reportedly dating philanthropist Paula Hurd.

Despite their divorce, Bill and Melinda remain committed to co-parenting their three children amicably. However, Melinda admits that the journey has not been without its challenges.
