Jenelle Evans is standing her ground and speaking out about her decision to send her 16-year-old son Jace to live with his biological father, Andrew Lewis. Despite the backlash, Evans is setting the record straight on her challenging journey as a mother and the tough choices she’s making for her son’s future.

In a recent TikTok video, the former Teen Mom star opened up about her decision, stating, “You guys are looking at this as a negative situation, but everyone behind closed doors is looking at it as a positive thing for him.”

Evans, who has had a tumultuous relationship with her son, insisted that she’s doing what’s best for Jace. “You can say all you want. You can say I’m not taking care of my kids. But being a mother is doing the best interest for your child and I am doing the best interest for my child,” she declared.

The backstory behind this decision is complex. In April, Evans called 911 on Jace, claiming he was damaging their Las Vegas home. Prior to this, Jace had run away from home multiple times, with one incident allegedly stemming from an altercation with Evans’ estranged husband, David Eason. Eason was subsequently charged with Assault by Strangulation, a felony.

Jace’s struggles don’t end there. Evans revealed that her son has been diagnosed with ADHD, major depressive disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). “With defiant disorder, it’s very hard to deal with. Kids act out on purpose because they want attention. They have no remorse. They have no empathy for what they did,” she explained.

Evans, who now resides in Las Vegas, regained custody of Jace in March 2023 but lost it again in October after another 911 call. The mother-son relationship has been a roller coaster, with Evans admitting that she and Lewis need to provide a safe environment for Jace.

“We’ve tried everything we could,” Evans said. “Right now, he needs to be in a situation where both households are safe.” Looking ahead, she’s hopeful that co-parenting with Lewis will provide the stability Jace needs.

“I feel like when you’re co-parenting, if both sides of the family can come together to help solve these issues before they turn into adult…it’s just really important,” Evans stated. Despite the challenges, she’s determined to put Jace’s well-being first.
